Being a framer is…
…being mindful when you work!
Dad always tells me to ‘measure twice, cut once, and think about it while you do it’ and never have truer words been spoken.
Being a picture framer is a wonderfully calming and mindful job. You are working on something that has been created by someone, with love and thought. So, love and thought should be the least the picture deserves.
Taking time to be immersed in the task at hand is what is needed as a framer. Be, rather than do. Engage, rather than be passive.
Earlier this week, I spent the day in the workshop - my mind a bit foggy, thinking about housework - hoovering, washing, you name it - and I was working on framing a print for the gallery wall.
Suffice to say that Dad’s words started to echo through the fog - I wasn’t focused at all. My measuring was all over the place, and I needed to sort it out before I made mistakes.
So, when we look all zen, that’s why. We have been measuring, and in order to do it right, we had to stop our brains from thinking about the hoovering!
