How workshops make for magic moments
Recently, we have started offering workshops to our customers. They range from evening art or craft sessions, through to children’s holiday art workshops and on to a cluster of group sessions to learn a particular artistic skill. So far, we have found a really good turn out for these events which from a purely business mind, means that we are on the right track and we have something wonderful to offer. Our community really seems to want it.
But it isn’t all about business. It’s about sharing skills, passions and allowing our students and contributors to take a moment for themselves. What a wonderful thing to be able to do!
I have able to take part in every workshop so far, and have been lucky enough to support the artist with their event. It has been wonderful to get everything ready for them - shopping for tea and biscuits, making sure that the space is clean and tidy and that it is as restful as possible. Once that is done, then the event can begin.
Here is when we see creatives in their element. Being an artist can be a lonely business - often working, isolated from the outside world, whilst they have the space to create. By tutoring at workshops, they can shine, and that is something really special. It gives the artist a chance to be around students, who have plenty of motivation, but often no idea where to start. More than that, it gives them the opportunity to showcase skills that they have learned along the way and which they are more than happy to pass on.
Let me tell you, too that no workshop is ever the same - there are different tutors, different approaches, different styles and techniques. There is, in short, so much to learn. The creative world is literally a smorgasbord, which students can dive in to and discover where they find their happy. We often find repeat customers at events. I think partly that is because they love the opportunity to be able to sit, chat and feel that sense of calm that comes with being creative, but they also get that learning. There is alot to be said for stimulating the grey matter with creative pursuits - it gives us time out of our normal lives and lets us engage with something that can bring a sense of achievement and motivates us to try more.
So, if you are like me, who used to think in the past that I couldn’t possibly learn a skill because I am ‘just not an artist’…give it a go. I have been surprised by myself at each and every session I have done. I might not be brilliant, but I love it and I definitely want to learn more and more!
