Northants & Rutland Open Studio Festival

We are delighted to host ‘One Shared Pulse’ an exhibition of eight artists as part of the Northants and Rutland Open Studios festival in September.

Sandra Jenkins

I have  been involved in developing art as textiles for a number of years as a teacher as well as workshop provider.

The process of designing has always informed my own creative understanding.

I combine techniques and use dye, print and paper along with handmade felt and then further embellish with hand & machine embroidery. 

I am from South West Scotland and the coast & seashore vegetation provides a continued source of inspiration- my most recent work combines floral imagery with imagined sea forms.

Cate Kutas

Born in Leicestershire, Cate lives in rural Northamptonshire and is a member of Northants and Rutland Open Studios. She is a self-taught artist specialising in soft pastels and graphite.

Wildlife and animals are her passion, not just painting them, but supporting their care through supporting Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital. 

Developing her art skills, Cate experimented with different media and now specializes in Soft Pastel/Pastel Pencils and Graphite. After realising that art helped her mental well-being, she felt that art had to be her focus, making life changes to enable this journey to continue as a full time artist. Art is her happy place and makes her totally fulfilled.

Emma Swales

I grew up in Cumbria with the Lake District on my doorstep. The breathtaking beauty of the land, hills, rivers, and shorelines, together with the ever-changing light and colours, all have a powerful effect on how I feel.

When I started in ceramics a decade ago, I was naturally drawn to expressive glazing using rich and distinctive colour palettes. I did not realise then that I was evoking my own sense of being present in the landscape I love.

 I'm now based in Lutterworth, Leicestershire and work from a garden studio. My work is available from my website, selected galleries and through ceramics fairs across Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, and nationwide.

Claire Rumsby

I am an artist printmaker in Leicestershire that specialises in creating artworks that celebrate colour, texture, and the simple beauty of the natural world. My work is rooted in a mix of traditional and contemporary techniques such as linocut, monotype and dry point etching.

My love of printmaking started over 30 years ago screen printing at school and was reignited in more recent years as a respite from working digitally as a freelance surface pattern designer.

I work in small editions and commissioned pieces with a strong focus on craftsmanship and sustainability.

Lisa Deighan

Lisa is a Batik artist and designer living in a picturesque village in Northamptonshire where she showcases her unique contemporary style of “Batik Silk Painting” - a wax resist method using jewel toned inks and melted wax on silk.

Her ideas stem from drawing weird and wonderful flowers & plants and she is also inspired by vintage fabrics, teacups and quirky 1970s kids’ book illustrations.

Katy Dynes

I'm a full-time illustrator and workshop provider working just outside of Market Harborough on the beautiful Northamptonshire/Leicestershire border.

I take great inspiration from 'daily life' and am always trying to capture the character or essence of someone or something. In my trusty sketchbook (a constant companion). I revel in and will always find a little magic in everything, especially in my garden, surrounding'wild' environment or on my travels. I adore words and story-telling and am frequently found illustrating on very old dictionary paper. I love the idea od taking something 'unused and unloved' and making it beautiful again – therefore, creating a new and different story.

In my 'spare' time, I'm a voracious reader, lover of dancing, singing and yoga and can often be found outside, sketching, gardening or walking in the surrounding fields.

Anna Yardley

 Energetic artist who loves being adventurous with textures, colours and patterns.
I enjoy using collage, patterns and shapes to create paintings and developing a style that brings about a positive feeling for my artworks.
Inspired by the sea, water, wildlife and nature my original artwork created from acrylics, watercolour or mixed media is selectively chosen for contemporary homeware, clothing or stationary goods to love.  

Jack Astbury

Jack is a woodturner and fine furniture maker based in the heart of Northampton. Specializing in vases, sculptural forms and small one pieces of furniture. Jack's favorite way to make it take wood that is often deemed unusable by most and bringing it to life.
